• Hi John. This vívosmart band is bundled with the accessory heart rate monitor, which is a chest strap. The band must be paired with the HRM, which is worn on your chest, in order to receive heart rate information. Thanks for asking! *CG

• You must wear the Heart Rate Monitor strap in order to get heart rate displayed on the wrist band.

• Yes it's continuous, so you can raise your hand and see your current reading. You can also set the watch to light up automatically (when in the activity/running mode), so you don't have to tap it or find the heart rate section. You do have to wear the chest strap to see a heart rate.

• You must wear the chest strap to activate the HRM. Otherwise it counts your steps and estimates calories burned.
