A:Answer Hi Jake.
Yes, you can swim while wearing both the vívosmart and accessory heart rate monitor.
The vívosmart is water resistant, and can be worn while showering, or performing activities such as shallow snorkeling, and surface swimming. Surface swimming means the device can be used while swimming (no scuba diving) in fresh or salt water (please rinse device after use in salt water) and the device will not sustain water damage. It has a water rating of 5 ATM or 50 meters.
Both the The standard Heart Rate Monitor (Hard Strap) and the Premium Heart Rate Monitor (Soft Strap) have a water rating of 3ATM. They can withstand 30 meters of water pressure, which means they can be worn while swimming without causing them damage. Being worn on the chest, the Heart Rate Monitors do not repeatedly impact the surface of the water as wrist-worn devices
However, the heart rate monitors are not designed to provide heart rate data in the water. This limitation is related to the inability to transmit the heart rate data through the water. After exiting the water, the Garmin device will begin to record heart rate data. Thanks for asking! *CG
