The vivosmart HR will be able to track heart rate, but may not be able to accurately track steps while holding on to a cane or walker since the accelerometer may not be able to pick up on the movement. The device can be used without syncing with a cell phone.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.In my experience, your arm must be swinging for steps to calculate. I've tried connecting it to my ankle, did not work there. So, it will not track steps if your arm is pushing a walker, I wouldn't think.
