• The Garmin VivoActive does not have a built-in heart rate monitor, but it does work with a chest strap monitor.

• Yes, it supports the Garmin Part Number: 010-10997-00. This is the one that I used with the Garmin 305.

• The watch does not measure heart rate on it's own, must pair with the heart rate strap sold in the bundle or purchase separately. If you desire this data from your workouts, purchasing separate makes sense. If you don't incorporate heart rate targets into your workout, not needed.

• Yes. Unfortunately it has to be a Garmin HRM strap. I have a Polar Strap and it does not link.
