The door opening is slightly smaller than 12" wide because of the indention in the side wall, but your 10.75" plates should fit without having to be tilted to be placed in the microwave. A:AnswerThis microwave was introduced in the late '80s and offered 500 watts of cooking power. We didn't include turntables in our microwaves back when this model was available. We did offer a rectangular/square glass cooking tray (WB49X0563) which is no longer available to purchase through GE Appliances. If you aren't seeing any evidence of sparking or arcing inside the oven cavity when in operation, the unit is fine to use. -Vikki@GEAppliances
