While this model is dark gray, it does have several different finishes for its trim kits that you can choose from. This helps it to blend with the other appliances in your kitchen. The Stainless Steel trim kits can be found by searching for part numbers: JX7227SLSS and JX7230SLSS. The new model can only be built in, it's not recommend to install this unit on a countertop. - However, if you're wanting a countertop model, this one might be what you're looking for: PEM31SFSS. If the microwave starts as soon as the door is closed, the microwave isn't really starting; the fan is coming on in anticipation of the unit starting. Great question! While we do not have the exact measurements of the mounting bracket, as long as the cutout height is 16-1/2" you will be able to install your unit.
