Surface light on my brand new GE microwave measures 322 degrees. Here are today’s search results: A surface light on the bottom of an over-the-range microwave heating to 322°F is dangerously hot and exceeds safety standards for external surfaces. A halogen or incandescent bulb is likely causing this issue. A temperature this high poses a significant burn and fire hazard. For context, water boils at 212°F, and a surface at 322°F can cause a severe burn on contact.
