Hi - Thank you for having purchased a GE laundry center for your home. During the wash cycle, the agitator moves back and forth to provide excellent cleaning results. This sound is normal. Additional sounds are described on page 20 of the owner's manual. We hope this is helpful. Vikki@GEA
