You will definitely want to turn it off or the pump motor will burn out. Look in the manual to find the pump on/off switch.

What you may be hearing is the factory-installed icemaker in the freezer. The icemaker will make a buzzing sound every 15 minutes when it's trying to fill with water. You will need to make sure it is turned off if a water line is not connected to the refrigerator.
