Hi there, Gentlewaters - Great question! Dishwashers have styrofoam placed in the vent area on the dishwasher door to prevent moisture from the steam and humidity from dripping. This styrofoam is part of the product and not the packing, so do not remove. Thanks for checking! -MikaylaGEA
