“The machine automatically turns on when the door is closed. I've never owned a dishwasher before so I don't know how this machine works. I must have lost the directions? Can I get directions?”

I think if you go to GE's website with the model number you can access directions that way. However, when you close the door, you might accidentally be pushing the start button at the same time.
