“Is it possible (safe) to set this oven on a stand or base cabinet rather than having it built in? I realize that it wouldn't Be "finished" on the sides, top and bottom.”

Hi Cat57 - Thanks for considering our GE Wall Oven! This would not be an approved installation. You will need to be sure the oven is securely installed in a cabinet that is firmly attached to the house structure. Weight on the oven door could cause the oven to tip, resulting in serious personal injury or death. Cabinet space must be provided to enclose the recessed part of your built-in oven. It is important that the oven be installed at or above the minimum height specified. The unit has been tested and approved, in accordance with safety standards, at this height. GE Appliances cannot recommend altering, redesigning, or modifying an appliance. Our products are designed, tested and manufactured to specific specifications. Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes, I think this is possible, but safe depends on you. I looked at it before it was installed into our cabinet. The entire unit is self contained. However, you have to keep in mind that doing this will more than likely void the warranty. Plus, the unit must still be hardwired to a junction box. There is no plug to plug into an electrical outlet. Also, this beast weighs a ton. It’s not likely to tip over, but you would still need to strap it in place, in case of an earth trimmer. You wouldn’t want this thing falling over if a child decides to climb on top of an open door.
