• Hi Steve - Thanks for considering GE! Our room air conditioners must be plugged directly into a properly grounded 3-prong wall outlet. Do not use an extension cord or plug the unit into a surge protector or multi-outlet adapter. Keep in touch at GEAppliances.com. Sue
