Hi - Thanks for choosing GE Model # GUD27ESSMWW! Yes, you can open the lid during the wash cycle, however this washer has a security system that prevents opening the lid during the spin cycle. The lid lock prevents anyone (especially children) from reaching into the washer while the basket is spinning. The lid lock will release within 5 seconds after the basket stops spinning. Also, the water fill will continue with the lid opened, except when Precise Fill (on some models) is selected as the load size. The lid must be closed to continue filling when Precise Fill (on some models) is selected. Keep in touch at GEAppliances.com for all your appliance needs! Sue
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. If it’s not in the spin cycle, yes. I always put in my clothes, turn on the machine and while the water fills, I put in the soap and softener.. more than once I’ve had to add a thing or two while it’s filling. The lid locks when in a spin cycle. I LOVE this machine!
