Hi- Models with Precise Fill (load sensing) will lock during the load sensing period and during the spin cycle. Pausing the machine will allow you to open the lid. During the spin cycle, pausing the washer does unlock the lid, but you must wait until the basket has completely coasted down to a stop before the lid unlocks, for safety reason. See the following link TOP LOAD WASHER - LID LOCKFEATURE: https://products.geappliances.com/appliance/gea-support-search-content?contentId=23192 - Keep in touch! Sue
Sorry, there was a problem. You can then open the lid. You can do this multiple times, to throw in additional items, to check water temperature (I sometimes mix temperatures for my loads while the washer is filling), if using the “precise fill” setting you can check to see if it has filled to your liking, etc. You just have to remember to hit the start button again once you close the lid; sometimes I forget and my laundry just sits there in the washer, as it does not start up again automatically.
