Q: QuestionThe height of the stovetop in your info states 4 3/4 inches. Is that the total height (including the top edge) or the depth from the countertop surface?

• A:Answer from the measurement diagram you can see it's from the base (below counter) to the surface. Fully installed including the knobs and grates it's about 4" above the surface in total, and about 2.5-3" below.

Q: QuestionWhat is the black material? I assume it is applied over the stainless steel. If the black is scratched, will the scratch mark read black or silver? Is the black surface smooth or rough?

• A:Answer The black surface has a matte finish, like a spray powder coat. It has not yet scratched, in spite of heavy pots and pans, so i suspect it is a durable baked-on finish. I expect it will have the durability of a non-stick pan finish. At least it feels like that. I am not going to try to scratch the finish to find out.

Q: QuestionAre the knobs made of plastic or are they made of metal? I have a GE cooktop and the knobs have all broken. Replacement cost is prohibitive and I recommend that anyone buying a cooktop buy one with metal knobs.
