“I just purchased this item. My previous microwave stopped running completely when the timer runs out. This one says "OVEN IS COOLING" when the timer runs out and the fan keeps running until I open the door. Is that normal operation? What is the purpose?”

The fan will automatically shut off when the internal parts of the oven have cooled.
