QuestionDo I need to purchase a new 30" trim kit if I already have one?We currently own a GE microwave with model #JEB1860SMSS and were informed by a GE rep that GE microwave with model #PEB7226SFSS has replaced it because it is no longer being manufactured. My question is: Will I have to purchase a new trim kit or can I use my existing 30" one if I have to replace my old microwave that broke on Thanksgiving eve and is irreparable? Secondly, will the replacement microwave fit in the niche seeing that the dimensions of the " replacement" microwave are somewhat bigger?? Thank you...

- Answer Hello - this is Nancy at GE and we are sorry to hear that your microwave stopped working just before Thanksgiving. I am very happy to help you. Yes, the PEB7226SFSS is a great replacement for the JEB1860SMSS. The new trim kit that you will need for a 30" cabinet is the JX7230SFSS. The new trim kit is necessary because the screw holes, ventilation and cosmetics have changed. The trim kits and microwaves have to be approved together for use. The good news is that both your old and the new trim kit require the same cabinet cut-out dimensions. I hope this helps! Thank you for contacting GE!

QuestionI have GE MW model PEB7227SL1SS I purchased the 27in trim kit JX7227SLSS - the top and bottom are perfect but the sides are skinny leaving space on the right and left sides of the mw and built in hole...would a 30 in trim kit fix this? If yes, model #?

- Answer Hi Robbasti- Thanks for considering a GE Series Microwave! There are a variety of countertop microwaves available; however, only select models can be installed in a cabinet for a built-in look. To convert select GE countertop microwaves into a built-in microwave, a 27" or 30" wide trim kit will be needed. We currently do not offer a 24" trim kit. - Answer Hello Rhonda - this is Nancy at GE Appliances. I'm sorry to hear that your microwave is no longer working and am happy to help you find a great replacement model. The cabinet cutout that your current microwave trim kit required is 16-3/4" high x 25-1/2" wide. A great replacement microwave would be the PEB7226SFSS because the trim kit for this model requires a similar cabinet cutout. You would not need to modify your cabinets. I hope this helps!
