Hi Katheline- GE washers require a 120 volt individual, properly grounded branch circuit with a 3 prong grounding type receptacle, protected by a 15 or 20 amp circuit breaker or time-delay fuse. Will not operate if voltage is higher or lower than 102V - 132V. Thanks for choosing GE! SUE@GEA

It does not need a special outlet. However, if you do not already have a safety outlet in your laundry room get a EGFR plug (one that shuts itself off if there is a short or water) then call an electrician and get it installed. Should you ever experience flooding or get water near the outlet, It can prevent harm. Money well spent.
