Hi LeeBaby- This is Sue at GE Appliances. The main differences between these models are the capacity and agitator. GTW685BSLWS is the latest model and has a dual-action agitator- Powerful reversing wash action rotates your laundry for a thorough clean every time. Loads are thoroughly saturated with this recirculation pump that moves water and detergent through clothes. Top-load washers with an Infusor will not have a traditional agitator. The Infusor replaces the agitator and is approximately 7 1/2" high and has a wide base (wash plate) that works alone or with the wash basket to provide different types of wash action. With an Infusor, the clothes stay near the wash plate. The mechanical action of the Infusor moves the clothes through the water and against the sides of the tub and down around the Infusor. Provides a Deep Fill/max fill wash water level. Also incorporates a Deep Fill rinse to effectively rinse bulky items and a low spin speed appropriate for these items. Any size comforter will wash properly as long as it fits below the balance ring of the washer tub and is not stuffed in the tub tightly. You should not experience the described odor problem. Both models feature a Basket Clean cycle. This Basket Clean cycle should be performed, at a minimum, once per month. This cycle will use more water, in addition to bleach, to control the rate at which soils and detergents may accumulate in your washer. Washer odors are usually caused by leaving the washer lid closed when not in use. This does not allow air to circulate and dry out the moisture remaining in the tub area. The air and moisture mixture becomes stagnant and creates an odor. When the washer is not in use, leaving the lid up/open for air circulation will help prevent odor. Keep in touch. We are always eager to help!
