Hi Jody - Yes, GFW450SPMDG is an HE washer. Top-loading and front-loading GE Appliance washers with the HE label are defined as washers that use low-water levels in wash and rinse cycles. Unlike the top loader, the front loader's wash basket is set horizontally, and uses gravity to pull water through clothes. And because the basket never has to fill completely with water you end up using only a third of the water a top loader uses, but your clothes get just as clean. Pair with GE® 7.5 cu. ft.
