“Does the washer need 1" on each side for install? My space is 28.5" wide, so technically it will fit snug if it doesn't need room on each side. Please advise.”

Hello - Thanks for reaching out, this is a great question. This model washer requires a minimum clearance of 0" on either side. Additional clearances can be found on page 19 in the owner's manual. We're glad that you checked! -Mikayla@GEA
