“I had this installed by Best Buy but when I was looking at the manual it said the brackets on the back of the washing machine were supposed to be removed. Should I remove the brackets or leave them on?”

Hi JD - Thanks for choosing GE Model GFW650SSNWW and welcome to the family! We are sorry to hear the shipping braces were not removed by the installer at BestBuy. The braces must be removed as indicated in the Installation Guide. Failure to remove the shipping braces can cause the washer to become severely unbalanced.
