Hi - Thanks for reaching out with this great question. The minimum standpipe height is relative to the bottom of the washer. This is to help ensure that the drain hose cannot be positioned such that it will siphon the wash water out of the machine during a cycle (before the drain pump pushes it out). Since putting the unit on a pedestal or riser raises the bottom of the unit, the minimum standpipe height should increase by the height of what it is being mounted to.
