The indicator light will come on after 250 hours of operation. Clean the air filter, place it back in the front panel, and press Filter. The light will go off. For reference and cleaning instructions, take a look at pages 5 and 7 of the manual: https://products.geappliances.com/MarketingObjectRetrieval/Dispatcher?RequestType=PDF&Name=49-5000462.pdf - Keep in touch at GEAppliances.com. Just take a vacuum cleaner using the hose without an attachment and suck up any dust that has accumulated on both sides. When you open the front of the air conditioner, there is a filter that covers the whole front. It looks like a small screen. There should have been a manual that came with the air conditioner that will tell you what things like this mean.
