• Hi - Yes, if it is desired to manually add detergent for a load, that detergent will need to be added directly to the basket, and the smart dispense set to OFF for that particular load. • No I use the pods this washer knows how much to use it can tell you the clothes come out very clean it knows how much clothes are in there an a just the water an soap it's great washer
