A:AnswerHello there - We're happy to offer some insight here. The Department of Energy (DOE) sets standards for washer water usage and over the years, the amount of allowable water usage has been reduced. With washers using less water and energy, you will no longer see a wash basket full of water. Most washers are now programmed with load sensing to adjust water levels based on the cycle and load size, so the amount of water used will vary. We hope this is helpful! Let us know if you have any other questions - we're always glad to assist. All the best, Kesley@GEA
A:AnswerI do not know if it has a lint filter. I have not looked for one and never heard of a washing machine with one. This probably is not helpful but you could check the online manual and search the document to see if it has one.
A:AnswerI wonder if selecting for a bulkier load would give you more water, i.e. play around a bit with different types of wash settings? I know front load washers are supposed to require less water...you sure you really need it?
A:AnswerHello there, we first want to congratulate you on your new washer. In addition, we're sorry your cycles are taking longer than expected. We can imagine how frustrating this would be on you and we're happy to help. We first recommend disconnecting power to the unit for 2-3 minutes to reset the controls. In addition, make sure that you have the Sanitize/Oxi cycle selected. If a cycle lasting this long were to happen again, we'd recommend taking advantage of your warranty and scheduling service with a certified GE Appliances technician that will be able to ensure everything is working properly. You can do so by calling GE Appliance Service at 1-800-GECares (1-800-432-2737). If there's an issue to be addressed, we're confident our technician would be able to get you taken care of. Thank you for trusting us to help. - Guy@GEA
A:AnswerI am concerned about this as well. After spending a grand on this machine I don't want it scratched. Our previous white whirlpool top loader was scratched a lot. The sides and front of this machine I am not too concerned about, but the top looks just too easy to scratch. I decided to cover it. The solution I picked was the rubber mesh stuff that gets sold for the lining of kitchen drawers and cabinets. I bought it in black and it looks just fine on the top of the blue washer. FYI I trick I use for saving money - I don't buy it when packaged and sold for kitchen drawer use. The exact same material is sold for placing under area rugs and small carpets for holding them in place on hard floors. It is the same thing, but they package it in large sizes at the same price as the kitchen liners. A pair of scissors is all it takes.

A:AnswerHi there - Great question! We comply with all federal, state and international requirements regarding hazardous substances and meet those standards. We also comply with federal and state chemical labeling laws, like California Proposition 65. The presence of a Proposition 65 warning does not necessarily mean the product is unsafe or poses a health risk. Over 800 chemicals are on this list, including wood dust, nickel (found in stainless steel), nicotine, and alcohol. Additionally, even inaccessible parts can cause the warning. We can understand your concern; however, we do not provide detailed information about what causes the Prop 65 warning to apply. Thanks for checking! -Mikayla@GEA
A:AnswerHello Rob - We appreciate the interest in this excellent washer. The highest temperature the unit will reach is approximately 145 degrees F on the Sanitization cycle. The sanitization metric is based on the amount of time above a minimum organism killing temperature – in this case 131F (55C). The GFW850 spends >30 minutes above the minimum 131F temperature, surpassing the criteria. Please let us know if you have any more questions. - John@GEA
A:AnswerHello Dick - Thank you for reaching out about our magnificent new washer. We will be happy to help.
The 1 Step wash and dry setting is intended for small loads to complete over night. This setting will add 8 hours to whatever cycle it is selected on. The clothes will tumble dry as the unit blows air around them. We hope this helps and let us know if you have any more questions. - JB
A:AnswerHi there Nursecathy123cat,
Thank you for reaching out. Great question.
Most GE washers provide cold rinse water for all three wash temperatures which saves energy without decreasing rinsability. Cold water helps to cut sudsing action and assists in detergent removal. Many detergent manufacturers recommend a cold rinse for these reasons. Some models have a warm rinse capability that is normally used when a hot wash was selected. The only benefit of the warm rinse is the water extraction is about 5% better than w/cold rinse (clothes will take just a slight less time to dry when using a warm rinse). But the energy savings of a cold rinse well outweighs the cost of the slight extra dry time. This model does not have a warm rinse option. Hope this helps. Best wishes. Mike@GEA

A:AnswerYou select the Rinse & Spin cycle then hold the Extra Rinse button down till the light goes off then press the start button it will do a spin and drain.
A:AnswerI am having this same problem. My clothes loads almost feel damp when washing. my one or two rugs are soaked and even after doing an extra spin cycle. This isn’t a pump problem, there is something going on with washing rugs.
