When using the Smart Dry mode, once the unit reaches the desired humidity level, it will shut down the fan. It appears to have a tolerance to allow the humidity level to increase a few percent before turning back on. I have had this unit for about 2 months now and have so far been very happy with it.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes it cuts off when the smart sensor senses the proper humidity level has been reached. But I would research other dehumidifiers at this range as this is my second GE product now in 8 months. The other one died and it was a big pain to go through GE and get some of my money back. Definitely buy the coverage.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I have my desired humidity level set at 45%. Out of the box, my fan mode was set to high. The fan does cut off when it is not running. There is a nonstop mode available. There are also 3 fan modes. High, low or Smart Dry. The manual states that high is for maximum moisture removal. Low is for quiet operation. Smart dry compares the actual humidity to the relative humidity to determine fan speed. This is my first day using it and it isn't kicking on very much. Maybe because the central a/c is running a bit today. The manual states to run it at 45-50 % humidity setting for the first 24 hours.
