Maybe. I placed mine in the basement, placed it on "auto", and the pump drains into a sink. Before I did that, my AC was running constantly and the temperature inside would get no lower than 78°. Once we used the dehumidifier, it drops to a cool 72°. I think......as the air circulates around the house, it pulls the moisture from that air and recirculates it. So in a nutshell, I believe as long as you have good airflow the walls don't matter.
