A:AnswerLeave it upright at all times. Make sure all the water has been drained out of it. I have my spare Hurricane unit stored with a garbage bag over it with the hose off and in a separate bag along with the rest of the window kit.
A:AnswerI have it plugged into an outlet in my living room. 15 amp breaker. It all depends on what else you have plugged into that circuit, but you shouldn’t have a problem anywhere. I’m a licensed electrician and have not tripped the breaker on any setting on the unit.
A:AnswerThanks so much for your interest in this air conditioner. We're always happy to help you beat the heat. However, this exhaust hose does not come set up to install in a crank style window. Installation and ensuring the setup is air tight would require some crafty modifications. Thanks. - John@GEAppliances
A:AnswerLook at the unit from behind. You'll see a large white grill on the back, near the top of the unit. That's the filter. Squeeze the two clips at the top and pull the filter toward you. Carefully clear the screen on that grill and then replace.
A:AnswerHello. We appreciate you reaching out, though we hate to hear your new air conditioner didn't include a password to use WiFi connectivity. We know that can be an important feature and apologize for any inconvenience. However, upon review, it looks like the model number you asked about, APCA14YZBW, may not be currently equipped to connect with WiFi. If your manual references WiFi connectivity, it may be referring to one of our similar air conditioner units, APWA14YZMW. Again, we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. If you have that second model listed, or for any other reason think your unit is meant to be WiFi enabled, you can certainly call the Connected Home Support Line at 1-800-220-6899 for further assistance. We are also happy to assist with any other questions or concerns over social media, if needed. All the best! -Sarah@GEA
A:AnswerHey there, and thanks for reaching out. We certainly understand how concerning it must be to have an issue with fitting the exhaust hose, and would like to assist. This unit is meant to be connected to a window for exhausting. It comes with a window kit that can fit a window from 20" to 46" wide. Unfortunately we cannot recommend using a predrilled port in the wall, as we have not tested that style of installation for safety and reliability. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, and are happy to help with any other questions or concerns. Wishing you all the best! -Sarah@GEA
A:AnswerWhat you need is a “Portable Air Conditioner Exhaust Hose Coupler” along with another exhaust hose. You can find them online (Amazon etc). This will double the current length (you’ll have 2 exhaust hoses connected together). They come in various sizes so measure your current exhaust hose first. Hope this helps.
A:AnswerHi,
Thanks so much for reaching out. We'll be happy to answer your question. The running amps for this model is 12 amps. Since appliances with compressors use 2 to 3 times the running amps to start, the startup amps for this model can range from 24-36 amps. We hope this helps. Have a great day! Mike@GEA
A:AnswerHello, thank you for your question. This portable air conditioner is only designed to be installed through a window and we apologize for any inconveniences this may cause. If you would like to view the installation instructions for this unit, you can do so on page 9 of the owner's manual, linked here: https://files.bbystatic.com/1N8bHin0%2FZSA%2FLsdoYIGpg%3D%3D/B54C1184-DEC4-48A9-98BA-C23290D37094.pdf We hope this helps! -Chris@GEA
A:AnswerHello,
There could be quite a few reasons your portable ac is not cooling well. We recommend trying the following. Clean the filter. We recommend that the filter be cleaned once a week if possible.
Confirm there is ample space around the unit, and that there is nothing obstructing the air flow around the intake. Check your owner's manual for space requirements.
Verify your unit is in Cool mode.
Check your set temperature and make sure it is set at a cooler temperature than your room temperature.
Make sure there is no obstruction in the exhaust hose and the hose is not kinked or overly bent.
Do not exceed the recommended hose length of 5 feet. If you continue to experience problems, please contact GE service. You can schedule an appointment by calling 1-800-432-2737. Stay safe! Mike@GEA
A:AnswerI don’t really see why not as long as the height of the window doesn’t exceed the maximum length that the vent curtain expands to.I would double check those measurements first.
A:Answer14,000 BTU ASHRAE / 9,700 BTU SACC (the SACC rating takes into account the inefficiency of portable air conditioners and is therefore more accurate). Hope this helps.
A:AnswerFor this unit, I don’t think so. There’s only one conversion kit from GE (#RAP02) and it’s been sold out for some time. I’m not sure if it’s compatible or not. Hope this helps.
A:AnswerHi,
Thanks for asking! We're glad you like this model and we're here to help. Our rule of thumb is to never place anything between the plug and the outlet, ie. no grounding adapters, no extension cords, no surge protectors. You can find the electrical requirements of this model on page 9 of the Use and Care manual. Here's a link:
