A:AnswerHello- We appreciate your question and are happy to help! Keeping your doors closed is a great idea! You would think that bigger is better, but actually it isn't. ~It is critical that the capacity of a room air conditioner be the right size for the room being cooled. An improperly-sized air conditioner can result in a cold, clammy environment or an inadequately cooled room. The comfort level in a room is often more a factor of low humidity than low temperature. Portable air conditioners are most effective when used in small spaces or when used for supplemental cooling or heating (on Heat/Cool models) in large spaces. Depending on the temperatures outside it may never reach your preset temperature of 70 degrees. Your Portable AC removes heat and humidity from the room. We don't think there is an issue with your unit, it sounds like it is working as designed. We hope this helps! Joyce@GEA
A:AnswerHi - Thank you for your interest in a new GE portable air conditioner. All of our portable units have an exhaust hose that must be vented out a window in order to exhaust the heat generated by the air conditioner. We do not offer a model that can sit standalone in a room. All our best! Vikki@GEA
A:AnswerHi Linz - Thanks for viewing GE Model APCA14YZBW. A window extension is not available for a 60" vertical window. Keep in touch at GEAppliances.com. Sue
A:AnswerHi - Thanks for viewing GE Model APCA14YZBW! The unit is equipped with a 5' exhaust hose. Also, we comply with all federal, state and international requirements regarding hazardous substances and meet those standards. We also comply with federal and state chemical labeling laws, like California Proposition 65. The presence of a Proposition 65 warning does not necessarily mean the product is unsafe or poses a health risk. Over 800 chemicals are on this list, including wood dust, nickel (found in stainless steel), nicotine, and alcohol. Additionally, even inaccessible parts can cause the warning. We can understand your concern; however, we do not provide detailed information about what causes the Prop 65 warning to apply. For more information please refer to www.p65warnings.ca.gov - If you have any additional questions, do not hesitate to ask, we are also happy to help at GEAppliances.com! Sue
A:AnswerHello Kat - Thank you for the excellent question on this air conditioner. The exhaust hose is 5" in diameter. Please let us know if you have any more questions. - JB
A:AnswerWhat you have to know is that the longer the vent hose, the harder the ac will have to work because it gets hot. The smaller the vent hose the better it will work. Can you maybe direct the cold air with a fan or just add some kind of vent to the cold air to send it to where you want to go? Something like the picture that I add but of course it will have to be completely on top of the flow
