Hello Nancy, This is Michelle with GE and I am happy to help. Unless this is an appreciable amount of debris that fell through this area and is causing some kind of issue with the operation of the range, there is generally no need to clean this area. However, gas oven bottoms can be removed to access the burner area below the vent opening. This should normally be done by a technician or an installer. The instructions for removing the oven bottom on this range model CGS985SETSS can be see on page 53 (Step 8) of the Installation Instructions. Thank you for checking with us.
