“We just bought a GE unit and were shocked to find that it didn't have a drying cycle on it to get plastics dry and seemed to rely on evaporation and conductive heat. Does this unit have a heated drying cycle in it?”

it does have several levels of dry and works awesome on plastics when one of the higher levels is chosen. but that does take it out of the energy saving Cyle.

The dishwasher dries the dishes by natural convection airflow if a heating option is not selected. Just for reference, it is recommended that you do not wash plastic items unless marked dishwasher safe or the equivalent. We also recommend using the upper rack as it is a secure place for dishwasher-safe plastic items. To maximize your drying experience, you can also leave the door closed after the Clean light appears to allow the fan to run an additional 90 minutes.
