The control panel does go to sleep after a little time goes by. If your dishwasher panel worked earlier, then pressing the Mode or Start button should make it come to life again. The issue you have may indicate a problem if when you press the buttons there is no change in the display (if it still stays all dark). I have this model dishwasher and my panel seems to be a bit over sensitive to coming back alive again. For instance, it's pretty easy to hit the top panel with your leg while loading the dishwasher full of dishes and have the top panel start lighting up thinking you're ready to start a new load.

To remedy this, you need only press any of the buttons on your control panel to wake it up. Or, you can open the door to your unit.
