Hello Texasmom - this is Nancy at GE Appliances and I am happy to help you. This is a very nice unit. The capacity of this washer is 2.0 cubic feet. Pounds is no longer used as a rating system for washer capacity because there was no industry standard for comparison purposes. A washer is not limited in practical terms by the pounds or weight of the clothes it can wash. It is limited by the volume. To determine the proper amount of clothes a washer can handle, they should fit below the balance ring of the washer tub and not be stuffed too tightly. I hope this helps! Thanks for checking with us!
