Hi Inge- Thanks for choosing GE! The washer features auto-load sensing. It will automatically measure the load size and add just the right amount of water necessary for the load. The water fill will continue with the lid opened, except when Auto Load Sensing is selected as the load size. (The lid must be closed to continue filling when Auto Load Sensing is selected.) Make sure both Hot and Cold water faucets are fully on. The water pressure at the water inlet should be at least 20 psi. See page 5 regarding the water levels. This system requires less water while providing effective cleaning action. You may notice that the water level is lower than on your previous washer. This is normal: http://products.geappliances.com/MarketingObjectRetrieval/Dispatcher?RequestType=PDF&Name=49-90532.pdf - If you need further assistance, we encourage you to take advantage of your warranty and contact GE Appliance Service at 1-800-432-2737 or conveniently schedule an appointment online: http://www.geappliances.com/service_and_support/service/ - We hope this is helpful.
