Can this work on older motherboards null

You'll be fine on a pcie 3. It hardly makes a difference between 3 and 4 from what I've seen

Yes and no. Should it function? Yes. Will you get full performance out of it? While the answer depends on many factors if you are using a motherboard with pci gen 3, as opposed to pci gen 4, you are likely to run into reduced performance.
