I purchased chromecast to have access to ESPN stations that Comcast doesn't have an agreement with. It mirrors my phone or tablet to the tv.

You can use the same wireless network for your computers and Chromecast. Both devices need to be connected on the same Wi-Fi network to be able to communicate with each other during casting.
