The Nest Cam (battery) can run on battery power alone, or can be connected to a power outlet with the included or optional weatherproof cable and adapter for continuous power. Please note that the power adapter included is not weatherproof and not intended for outdoor use, and you can use a compatible weatherproof cable (sold separately).

You will need to periodically charges the camera, probably every few months depending on camera usage level. Also, there is an outdoor charging cable available that will keep the camera powered at all times. I believe there are 2 different lengths available to choose from, depending on how far your power outlet is from the camera.
