Yes it does, i had to put in a transformer for one of my setups because it was two wire. There are kits tobfake the cwire and they work if yiu have four wire

But in a small number of situations, your system may not be able to deliver enough power, which may drain the battery and cause Wi-Fi disconnection. In these cases, you may need to connect a common or C wire to deliver enough consistent power to your thermostat. A common wire is simply a wire that's dedicated to delivering constant power to your thermostat. We recommend contacting a Nest Pro to check your system and install a common (C) wire if needed.
