• The Nest app doesn't close itself as long as you adjust your phone display stays on. You can adjust the phone settings to enable this.

• No it would need to be open. It doesn’t auto close

• I can only hear sounds when the app is open; when locked, I can’t hear anything. Yes, the app closes after a certain lapse of time.
