This is the wired Nest Protect which is powered by 120V-240V wires and comes with 3 long-life AA backup batteries in case of a power outage. But, there's another type of Nest Protect which is battery-powered that uses six long-life AA batteries. Nest Protect requires Energizer Ultimate Lithium AA (L91) batteries which are designed for multi-year operation.
