Not sure what you are referring to when you say “wireless” but all of the smoke/CO detectors connect to your wireless network. This is done suring setup and allows for control and monitoring via the mobile app. We have an older home with electrical wiring to all smoke detectors which use a 9v battery backup. Nest makes both wired and battery only models of these detectors. The battery only models utilize long lasting energizer lithium batteries which the claim last > 2 years. The advantage of the battery models is they can be placed anywhere without the need to run electrical wire. I found a great deal on a bulk pack of the battery only models which I replaced existing old wired detectors in rooms with standard 8ft ceilings since battery replacement isn’t cumbersome. They completely covered the existing electrical box and wiring without any issues. I installed wired detectors on our 12ft ceilings using the existing wiring and replacing the old wire connector with the one supplied with the Nest detector. Although it is took a little longer to install due to the wiring swap (to do safely, should be shutoff at the breaker, but I put on a pair of rubber electrical gloves and swapped on live wires, no issues). My hope is that the wired version would require more infrequent battery replacement (better for difficult to reach detectors) although I wasn’t able to find explicit documentation by Nest stating this to be the case. I guess I’ll find out a few years from now. So you can use battery versions anywhere you want, wired versions easily replace existing wired detectors with just a swap of the wired connectors. Hope that helps!
