You wire it just like any other smoke detector. If you take an old detector out, and put this in, you're hooking it up the same way. There are instructions to fit the most common wiring scenarios, so it should fit most houses. It should be noted that there are two versions of this thing. This is the wired one, but there is also a "wireless" one that has a Li-Ion battery that you have recharge periodically. The advantage of that one, of course, is that you can put it wherever without needing to wire it.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You're going to have to take off your old smoke detectors and unscrew the caps that attach the black, white, and ground wires to your existing smoke detector's wire harness. Connect the electrical wires to the wire harness in the packaging by using the caps included to secure the connection. Once you've got the wiring set up, the end of the wire harness the Nest comes with will just plug into the back of the nest to keep it powered

If you are trying to network the devices together you will need to use your wifi router but in regards to the power supply, it should work and function the same other powered fire alarms.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Having wired one of these thus far, the installation is fairly easy. I had an existing wired smoke detector. After shutting off the power in the breaker panel for safety, I disconnected the existing smoke detector. After that there is a power connector that comes in the box with the detector. You wire the nest's power adapter, black to black and white to white. If you have an orange or bare copper cable you can use wire nuts to cap them off. After that you screw the base plate on, connect the adapter to the detector and twist the detector into place. You can see their user guide for more information. Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The Nest protects bring all wires needed for the installation. There's three wires that you need to connect. The red, black and white. If you are replacing a wired carbon monoxide, the wires will match.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. There is a common wire and a hot wire. If you have existing wired smoke detectors, or are running new wires, just connect the pigtail to the wire with the wire nuts it comes with, then plug it into the smoke detector. If you don't have existing wiring, or won't be running a new wire, then get the battery powered one.
