“I have 3 old style wired first alert type smoke detectors with the 3 wire configuration. If I replace all 3 with Nest Protect they will change the wire connector correct? So if I move and want to take the Nest with me, someone will need to rewire all 3?”

The wired Nest Protects have an AC power connector on the back and they include a pigtail that plugs into it. They also include the wire nuts needed to connect the pigtail to your existing AC power wires.

Nest Protect comes with 2 wire connectors that will connect to your existing wires. If your extra wire is colored red/yellow/orange, that is the interconnect wire and you can simply put a wire cap.
