You can check out the specs online at GoPro.com. I think they have the same video quality. The advantage of the LCD screen model is you can see what you are videoing or taking a picture of. Also, the LCD model connects via Bluetooth and wireless to an iPad or iPhone so you can view the videos or pictures on your device. You can also view what the camera sees. This made the LCD version the better one to buy. I hated the extra cost though! It makes it much easier to use. Otherwise you would have to hook up to a computer or take out the SD card to view pictures and video since the basic HERO model is not compatible with the App.

If I showed you pictures taken at from the Hero at 5MP and then I showed you pictures taken from the Hero+LCD at 8MP, you would definitely not stop and ask me why my second set of pictures looks so much better. It simply doesn't. If you put them side-by-side and looked for a difference would you find any? Maybe. Same is true for 1080p video shot at 15 Mb/s vs 25 Mb/s. You really aren't going to comment on any quality differences and again even comparing side-by-side it may be tough to tell unless someone pointed it out to you. At those high bit rates, it's pretty much all the same to the average person. Unless you are going to painstakingly compare the two side-by-side or zoom way in like 500% to see where the pictures breaks down in quality, just to convince yourself that it's worth the extra money... it's not worth the extra money. I bought my daughter the Hero and she loves it. I bought myself the Hero+LCD because I wanted the LCD and WiFi to control it with my Apple Watch and the videos from her Hero and my Hero+LCD basically look the same. They are both very high quality videos. Even when you zoom in it's hard to tell them apart.

The reason that I purchased this is I feel that I need to have a LCD screen to review things before I get home from my vacation to find out what they look like. I think it makes it easier to to be able to see what you are shooting while you're filming video.
