“Then chain has fallen off every single time we have tried to use this. Bought new just a few weeks ago. Any suggestions? Surely should not have to keep putting the chain back on every 5 minutes....it works wonderful the 5 minutes it works!”

Hello HStump - Chains stretch with use. When new, they stretch more. The tension on a new or newish chain should be checked and tightened every 20 minutes of cutting or so, it can get away from you fast. This is normal stretching.
