“Wife can’t push in the spring loaded lever in far enough to start the trimmer with the trigger. Spring too stiff. I barely can. Any recommendations/ fixes? Haven’t used it on grass yet!”

Which implement do you have . I have a weed Wacker, leaf blower, and cultivator and they are all super easy to start. I am a middle-aged woman with spinal stenosis in my neck. I suspect your implement is faulty, see if it has a warranty.
