how do I remove the container from the base null

You twist the cup and it unlocks from the base.

You twist the container to the right to unlock and then left to tighten.

Twist the top part to the left.

Just lift the blender off the base -- it does not lock onto the base. When using, hold the top of the blender to keep it stabilized on the base.
