The cord is connected to and stored under the base. The carafe rests on top of a heat element in the base. The carafe and the base separate for cleaning and storage.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.You can wrap the cord under the base but the plug does not lay flat though it is tucked. So the base can't be set flat when you have the cord that way. That would only matter if you were wanting to leave the base out on the counter when not in use. My wife has the base and kettle stored separately and sometimes leaves the kettle out by itself. The base tucks neatly into a cabinet, can also go in a drawer or basket.
